Are Volunteers covered under the workers compensation policy?

No, but the Office of Risk Management maintains a volunteer accident policy designed to provide a medical expense benefit to injured employees. Please report all claims to the Claims Manager.

What is our Workers Compensation policy number?

We do not have a policy number. If you are requested to provide a policy number on a form, in lieu of a number please indicate the following: “The Massachusetts Catholic Self-Insurance Group, Inc. operates under a Certificate of Approval on file with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Division of Insurance.”

Do we report the payroll for part-time employees?

Yes, part-time employees are covered under our Workers Compensation program; therefore, their payroll must be reported.

I received a dividend invoice. How do I get a refund?

All refunds should be requested in writing and sent to the Massachusetts Catholic Self-Insurance Group, Inc.  You can send your requests either by mail to the address on the invoice, or by fax to 617-779-4572, or via email.

I have an employee who receives a 1099; do we include that payroll on the Payroll Audit forms?

No. A worker who receives a 1099 is considered an independent contractor and independent contractors are not covered under the Workers Compensation program.

Are part-time employees covered?

Any employee on your payroll, whether full-time or part-time, is covered under the Workers Compensation program and their payroll must be reported.

Are priests covered under the Workers Compensation policy?

Generally, priests are not covered under the Workers Compensation program; however, they may have the option to be covered. Please contact the Office of Risk Management directly for more information.

An employee was injured on the job. How do I report the claim?

Injuries should be reported ASAP. Please see the Claims tab for more information.
